Katie Dey

Director of Fine Arts

Katie Dey joined the staff at First Presbyterian Church in 2024 and brought a passion for both music and community to her role as Director of Fine Arts. She especially enjoys connecting with members of the church family and building relationships across Laurens through the church’s Music for a Mission concert series.

Katie has served in church music positions in Greenville and Reidville, SC. She is a longtime faculty member at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities and performs professionally as principal violist with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra. She is originally from Lake Mills, Wisconsin and earned viola performance degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the Eastman School of Music. She also studied at the Indiana University Sacred Music Institute. Throughout her career, Katie has performed around the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.

Outside of church and teaching, Katie enjoys hiking and camping with her Australian Cattle Dog, Zelda, and playing her banjolele outdoors whenever she can. Around Laurens, she recommends a stop at the Sanitary Market followed by a walk on the trails at Musgrove Mill.

Guided by Ephesians 5:19 and the call to “sing and make music from your heart,” Katie believes music is one of the most meaningful ways people can connect, serve, and express faith.
